The real driver behind the recent swoon in crypto and stock markets is likely the impending liquidity drain stemming from the U.S. government’s Treasury General Account (TGA), a checking account held at the Federal Reserve that is poised for a significant buildup. Bitcoin (BTC) has declined by over 8% to $113,500 since hitting record highs above $124,000 last Thursday, according to CoinDesk data. Prices for other major tokens such as ether (ETH), XRP (XRP), and solana's SOL (SOL) have also corrected, dragging the broader market lower. The CoinDesk 80 Index has dropped 13% since last Thursday. The bullish momentum has also weakened on Wall Street, where the tech-heavy Nasdaq index fell by nearly 1.40% to $23,384 on Tuesday, having hit a record high of $23,969 a week ago. Bitcoin (BTC) fell below $111,000 during the overnight trade, reversing Friday's spike caused by Fed Chair Powell's dovish speech, as a whale sold into illiquid market conditions. The cryptocurrency's price fell by over 2% from $114,666 to $112,546 in under ten minutes to 07:40 UTC. The so-called flash crash occurred when a single whale sold 24,000 BTC, worth over $300 million, according to blockchain data firm Timechainindex.com. "This entity liquidated their entire 24,000 balance, sending all of it to Hyperunite. A Florida Congresswoman's post on X has moved the market for bettors looking to speculate on the firing of Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell. Anna Paulina Luna (R- Florida) claimed on the social media site that Powell's firing was 'imminent', but provided no further details, moving the 'yes' side of a related contract on Polymarket by 4 % up to 27%. Luna does not serve on the House Financial Services Committee , which oversees the Federal Reserve. The Florida 13th district representative serves on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee and Natural Resources Committee, and is a member of the House Freedom Caucus and Congressional Second Amendment Caucus.
